Inside Teenage Brain Reflection

Learning about ideas behind the teenage brain was interesting to me...since I am a teenager. Some of the things came as surprises to me. I was very surprised by one experiment the psychologists/scientists did. They showed some facial expressions to adults and teenagers. Apparently the responses were different; teens thought the faces were angry when they weren't, they were really just shocked. This led the scientists to think teens see anger in places where it isn't. I related this to myself because I often feel people are mad at me when they aren't. This idea led me to some questions, like when do our brains maturate to see the actual expressions? Or what leads us to see anger in more places than it really is. Is it because of teenage angst, or is it a chemical change? Overall, I thought the videos were informative and interesting.

Book Post Number 2

"Just remember that high school is a big game where the blond, perfect ones sit on the sideline while everyone else crosses a mine field trying not to look stupid. In the real world, this all reverses." (Page 7)

Ironically, my mother has also told me this line before. Basically, so far in the book Ruby is the backround girl with a few normal friends who try to give her a confidence boost. I think it is interesting how the blond cheerleaders are criticized as the perfect ones. Throughout high school we all experience many cliques. It changes however if somebody is in the clique, wishes they were in it, gets bullied by it, or hates the clique. No matter which one is being involved, we all encounter them at some point. I am interested to see how the cliques will effect Ruby. I feel like being a good, quiet girl will drive Ruby to the point where she does something rebellious. This rebellious act may psychyologicaly take her away from her quiet girl clique to a more outgoing clique. Overall, cliques are inevitable, and they all effect us psychologically.

Responce to "Olympic Brain Day"

In class today we did a few timed activities and saw some of our brain's reaction. I personally am never good at crosswords and such. Unfortunately, i still wasn't good at them yesterday. I am more of a puzzle person than a crossword puzzle. Although I wasn't good at the activities, some of the people in my group were. It was interesting working in a group because i could see other peoples strengths and their weaknesses. For example one student in my group was great at the word jumble, where as the rest of us had no idea what we were doing. After failing the crossword puzzles I have made it my mission to sometimes pick up the Sunday paper and try those activities. Hopefully that will give my brain practice on crossword puzzles.

Glogger picture

http://daniellejordan.glogster.com/psychology/

I chose pictures that are abstract and direct towards psychology. The picture of the book is a reference to how we use our brain to read and comprehend. The brain cell, is simply that, a brain cell....which we use in psychology to study the brain. I also put a diagram of the actual brain to label some of its parts. The picture of one dog barking out at another dog that is about to run away explains fight verses flight, which is also studied in psychology. Psychologists have found that in most situations people either choose to fight, or the run away (flight). Lastly i have a picture of two babies being held in a hand; one is a nature baby, the other is nurture. Nature verses nurture is one of the oldest studies in psychology, that is why i thought it was necessary for my glog. Overall, in my opinion these pictures sum up the basis of psychology and how it is the study of behavioral and mental processes.

My First Post !

1.) My book's title: Honey, Baby, Sweetheart by Deb Caletti.
2.)           Picture--->
3.) My book is about a girl, who is, "the quiet girl," and her mother has tight control over her. There is something that happens to her, that takes away the quiet girl status, however i do not think i will find out what that is until the end of the book. What I would like to get out of this book is, how does the tight control that the mother holds, effect the main characters doings? I feel like it will be interesting to see because my mom does not tightly control me. I feel that since she gives me freedom, i have been able to experience things more independently.
